Timeless tradition meets present ritual
Coffee in Chikkamagaluru, the birthplace of Indian coffee, is ritual. Beanaru was created to introduce South Indian filter coffee to a new audience. The coffee comes directly from Chikkamagaluru and carries with it a long tradition of cultivation, brewing, and daily coffee culture.
From the beginning, the project was about storytelling. The founders wanted the brand to communicate where this coffee comes from and why it matters, while presenting it in a way that feels contemporary and refined.
The design started with the brewing process itself. South Indian filter coffee is prepared using a metal filter composed of stacked chambers that slowly extract the coffee. That structure became the starting point for the graphic language. The arches used throughout the identity are inspired by the shape and stacking of the filter components, while also drawing references from mid-century architectural forms.
The visual system balances heritage and clarity. Warm earthy tones reference both coffee and the landscapes of Chikkamagaluru, while brass details connect the packaging to the traditional brass filters and cups used in the preparation of the drink.
The coffee pouches are produced with a soft-touch finish, paired with UV spot line work and matte brass foil to differentiate each blend. These finishes add depth to the graphics while keeping the overall design restrained and calm.
On the back of the packaging, the story of Beanaru and the origin of the coffee are explained alongside clear brewing instructions supported by custom icons. This allows the brand to introduce new customers to the brewing method while reinforcing the cultural context behind it and the sense of ritual.
The shipping box continues the same design language in a simplified way. Embossed details bring subtle texture, and the structure allows the box to work both as a shipping solution and as a gift box, making the product feel considered from the moment it arrives.
Beanaru brings together origin, story, and design to introduce South Indian filter coffee to a wider audience while respecting the tradition it comes from.
