Ordre de Malte
Food and beverage, Packaging
2026
This project was developed for Ordre de Malte France, the French branch of the historic humanitarian institution dedicated to healthcare, solidarity, emergency relief, and support for vulnerable communities in France and across 33 countries. Created in collaboration with Tandem Fragrances and Delord Armagnac, the project brings together a candle and an Armagnac under the leitmotiv Light & Spirit. Developed as part of a charitable initiative, the pieces were designed not as traditional retail products, but as objects connected to contribution, gifting, and support for the association’s mission. The Armagnac was conceived as a gift for major donors, reinforcing the emotional and symbolic dimension of the project.

The concept was built around the idea that light is never accidental; it is chosen, carried, and protected. From this idea, we developed a series of illustrations portraying the Carrier.
Inspired by the chiaroscuro tradition of oil painting, the visual language explores the relationship between darkness and illumination through layered shadows, controlled light, and atmospheric depth. Rather than creating purely classical scenes, the illustrations are reinterpreted through a geometric framework derived from the Croix de Malte logo and branding, introducing a contemporary and distinctive look while maintaining the richness and emotional depth of traditional oil painting.

The candle interprets light as vigil and presence, using a layered composition that naturally directs the eye toward the carried light. Subtle details, such as fig leaves, connect the artwork to the candle’s scent.
For the Armagnac, the concept shifts toward revelation. Constructed in a limited palette inspired by the natural tone of the spirit, the darker and more monochromatic atmosphere reinforces depth, continuity, and tactility. Vine elements integrated into the background add movement and dimension, extending the sense of ripple throughout the composition.

Print finishes became an extension of the concept itself. Different levels of embossing, debossing, foils, varnishes, and tactile contrasts were used to build depth throughout the illustrations and create surfaces that react to light differently depending on angle and touch. The result feels immersive and highly tactile, reinforcing the relationship between shadow, illumination, and materiality while bringing a luxurious dimension to the project.
