INSIDE TURIN: THE LAYERS THAT TELL THE STORY OF VERMOUTH DI TORINO IGP

Telling a centuries-old story does not mean recreating the past, but analysing it layer by layer and understanding what still defines it today.

The main label draws inspiration from the signs of historic Turin cafés and artisan shops, assembled one on top of the other to reinforce the concept of layering.

The additional details extend the design beyond the main label. The neck label highlights the brand, while a typical Turinese saying appears on a secondary label with a transparent gloss finish.

The Bull

symbol of Turin, appears as a seal in metallic yellow and in relief. The coin element was already part of the original label, and here it is reworked to reinforce the sense of origin and continuity with the past, while giving it a more defined role.

The Botanical Pattern

is developed through a fine engraving-style line, inspired by historic vermouth labels, characterised by very rich and detailed illustration. This directly connects to the artisanal care and complexity of the recipe. The aromatic herbs used as the infusion base of the vermouth are used as the foundation of the label.

Turin's Portici

are synthesised into geometric lines, applied to the neck label and as pillars to the word Rosso, while the Monferrato hills repeat as a relief pattern behind the IGP designation. This creates a recognisable rhythm without being didactic.

The central composition is defined by the typographic arrangement, which gives immediate presence to the denomination and establishes a strong, solid hierarchy. The materiality and printing processes work together to create contrast, texture and variation on the label, enhancing both the visual and tactile experience. The design is built as a flexible system to work across different SKUs. The primary colour defines each variant, with red identifying the Rosso. Future variants will be able to change colour while maintaining the same structure and arrangement of elements, guaranteeing immediate recognition across the entire range.

Fluorescent Ink

A second transparent pattern in fluorescent ink reveals in the dark symbolic elements linked to the more magical and alchemical soul of Turin. These symbols recall the careful blending of the vermouth, and the fluorescent ink adds a further experiential layer.

A-i va régola e mësura fin-a a bèive l’eva pura

A typical Turinese saying is applied in UV spot on the bottom label.

The project brings together the various layers of Turin, its visual culture, its craftsmanship and its identity, and translates them into a more modern language. Hidden details, material choices and structural elements work together to engage multiple senses and create a design that reveals itself over time, balancing recognisability with a more distinctive and contemporary expression.
